Fuck the Facts - "Die Miserable" Album Review

It seems all I talked about in September/October was Fuck the Facts new album "Die Miserable", which makes me kinda bummed out that I'm just now posting a review of it. After all the hype I gave it you figured I would make it a top priority right? Go figure. And believe me it's not because I didn't like it, not at all. "Die Miserable" is a damn fine album and one of the more aggressive FTF albums I've heard. Life just happens and you tend to forget to do certain things. I'm only human after all.
Anywho, FTF have really upped the heaviness and weirdness on this album. Honestly, probably some of the heaviest material they've written since "Stigmata High Five", pulling back on the melodic parts just a little bit in favor of more layers of technical guitar work, some solos, non-conventional chords, some great vocals from Mel and bass player Marc, and non-conventional chords. Some parts like the beginning of the first song "Drift" and "A Cowards Existence", probably my favorite song on the album, actually kinda remind me of Hate Eternal in terms of how they utilize weird/crazy riffs. Though when they do bring-out the melody, it's sounds so epic and grand. They even threw in some clean(er) vocals on 7-minute centerpiece "Census Blank"(please don't let that freak you out). There's also way more bass on "Die Miserable" than a lot of previous efforts, which I really like cause Marc is a great player, and offers a lot on this album in terms of rhythm and song-writting. It's a great group effort, and I think the different influences brought from each member shows. It sounds like FTF really wanted to go all out with instrumentation on this album, doing a lot more with overdubs and less traditional grind nuances(is that a toy piano I hear in the middle on "A Cowards Existence"?). It's great see that FTF can still experiment and toy with their sound, and still sound like they always do! And yeah, did I mention that it's really fucking heavy? Awesome album, please buy it!

Exclusive Debut of the New Fuck the Facts Song "A Contre-Courant"

Topon Das asked me a few days ago if we would be down to debut a new Fuck the Facts song on Operation Grindcore. To which I replied "FUCK YEAH!" It's with great honor that we at Operation Grindcore debut the song "A Contre-Courant" from the upcoming "Misery" EP. NEW FUCK THE FACTS SONG! NEW FUCK THE FACTS SONG!

Good new's everyone! Fuck the Facts have debuted a brand new track called "A Cowards Existence" from their upcoming full-length "Die Miserable" today on their Bandcamp page, and boy is it a beast of a song! It wastes no time, starting right up with blast beats, dissonant riffs, and a layer of noisy feedback over everything. Very, very cool riffs throughout. In typical FTF fashion, it breaks into a more melodic passage halfway through the song (they seem to be one of the only bands that can get away with this). I really dig the production on this song, everything is very loud and punchy, the guitars sound great, and I like that the bass guitar is really audible in the mix. "Die Miserable" comes out October 11th on Relapse Records on CD and LP, which you can preorder now!. Listen to the track here, and definitely check these guys out live. No doubt there will be extensive touring in support of this album. Hopefully they come to your town!

Weekend Nachos-Worthless(Relapse)

"Hometown Hero" is such a great opener for Weekend Nachos' third full length Worthless. It captures everything that is great about Weekend Nachos, their catchiness, their awesome groove parts, and their harsh vocals. After "Hometown Hero" the greatness continues with songs like "Obituary", "For Life", and "Black Earth", but starting with "The Meeting" things start to slow down. At the end of "The Meeting" some feedback comes in and things take a turn for the worse. The feedback then turns into the song "Worthless". I really don't get the point of "Worthless", don't get me wrong I love it when grind/powerviolence bands such as Robocop, ANb, The Endless Blockade, and Noisear do noise tracks, but it really doesn't fit in well with Weekend Nachos. I also think if a band does a noise track it should have some variety, unlike "Worthless" which is pretty much just straight feedback until the end of the song. After "Worthless" ends, the intensity of Weekend Nachos comes back. In the song "Jock Powerviolence" there is even some clean singing, and I actually(unlike many others) like it and think it is a cool variation from Weekend Nachos' normal sound. The last song "Future" comes in at seven minutes long, and to be honest it's pretty boring . I really don't understand why Weekend Nachos put a seven minute song that is basically just the same riff over and over on Worthless.

Overall, I think Worthless is a pretty good album, but I do think it would be way better without the slower songs. All the songs on Worthless( with the exception of "Worthless" and "Future") are really great and memorable, and I dig Weekend Nachos' unique blend of powerviolence, grindcore, and hardcore.

I give Worthless a 7.5 out of 10.
